Recent disasters (especially the Maui wildfires) have sparked an interesting discussion about over-the-horizon (OTH) grid-down communications. Leaving some asking, “Has satellite communications made HF radio obsolete?”

We always try to promote self-reliance over being completely reliant on someone else’s infrastructure and support network. SATCOM is amazing technology, but if it’s taken away from you, you have only one alternative that you have total control over.
